Developer Notes & FAQs

This website is created in DreamWeaver, and is compatible with most popular html editing programs (Adobe DreamWeaver, Adobe GoLive, MS Publisher, etc.) Customizing the site to your needs requires rudimentary knowledge of html, CSS, and some flash. We have provided a list of commonly asked questions below.


How does this work?
It is recommended that you obtain the services of a qualified developer to implement your site. Experience with HTML, Flash, and Photoshop are highly recommended. The site template included is created using standard tables and css elements to ensure compatibility across many html development platforms.

REQUIREMENTS:

- HTML Editing software (Adobe DreamWeaver CS4 recommended)

- Image Editing Application compatible with Photoshop CS4 layered documents

- Flash (.fla) editing software

PROCESS:

  1. BACKUP. Once you have downloaded the template, burn a clean copy to a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM as a backup. This will ensure that you have a clean backup from which to restore. This is recommended as well for when you have completed a solid final draft of your new website.
  2. Locate your server's FTP information (if available) to create a new remote site in DreamWeaver, or whatever html-editing program you are using.
  3. Locate (a copy of) your site template's html files and reference from within html editor.
  4. Edit the site as necessary. Included photoshop and flash files will help you to customize the site for your firm.
  5. Test site and upload. Make sure contact forms work properly. Comprehensive instructions for how to accomplish this aren't feasible due to the varieties of hosting server configurations. Consult your ISP for assistance.

How do I change the logo text?

  1. Install all included fonts
  2. Open website template's .psd file
  3. Locate layer group 'Masthead/Logo'
  4. Modify text on each layer as necessary
  5. Save for web the slice named 'masthead'
  6. Update changes via FTP

How do I use my own existing logo?

  1. Open your logo in image editing program
  2. Copy image to clipboard
  3. Open website template's .psd file
  4. Locate layer group 'Masthead/Logo'
  5. Click on topmost layer and
  6. Save for web the slice named 'masthead'
  7. Update changes via FTP

To change logo, open .psd file associated with template and locate the 'Masthead/Logo' layer group. Paste new logo (having previously opened it and copied it to clipboard) on topmost layer within this layer group. Deactivate existing layer with default firm name text (de-click eye).

How do I change the vertical text?
To change the vertical header text, (i.e. welcome, about the firm, etc.) simply modify appropriate layered photoshop slices included with .psd file template. Be sure when using the 'save for web' function to properly name the respective image slice, so as to avoid over-writing existing files for other pages.

How do I change the main body text?
The main body text of each page is simple html text. This can be editited in most html editing programs easily.

How do I change the main flash photos?
To change logo, open .psd file associated with template and locate the 'Masthead/Logo' layer group. Paste new logo (having previously opened it and copied it to clipboard) on topmost layer within this layer group. Deactivate existing layer with default firm name text (de-click eye).

How do I add or change profile photos?
Photos can be easily added or edited using our included photoshop master site template. Take care not to overwrite existing files - images are slice-based, and special care must be used to ensure that desired files are not over-written.

Social networking (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) icon links - editing, deleting, etc.
As a default, the links for each icon will take the visitor to that respective social networking service. To change this to your own subpage, simply change the links to your facebook, twitter links as necessary from within DreamWeaver.

How do I change the copyright information at the base of every page?
The copyright block at the base of each page is a LIBRARY element. Right-click this element and select 'Open Library Item' and edit the information as necessary. Save the file, and instruct DreamWeaver to update all pages which use this library item.

How do I change the navigation bar at the top of the page?
The navigational menu at the top of each page is a LIBRARY element. Right-click this element and select 'Open Library Item' and edit the information as necessary. Save the file, and instruct DreamWeaver to update all pages which use this library item. Take care when adding pages, making certain that new links are coupled with their respective pages.

How do I change the site's background colors?
The primary means to accomplish this is through the enclosed psd template. Change the relevant color slices and re-upload.

How do I change the body and link colors and attributes?
This is easily accomplished site-wide by modifying the included css styles sheet.

How do I make the contact form function?
Your final destination server will determine the best method of processing contact forms. The included form can utilize freeware solutions such as NateMail, or any other php-based form script. As all servers vary in configuraton, it is up to your Webmaster to ensure proper form functionality.

How do I upload the site once it's completed?
If using dreamweaver, simply set up your remote server using the proper configuration for your hosting package.
